The
renaissance of model car building, and hounding by Scale Auto Enthusiast (SAE), led to a burst of responsiveness to the
adult modelers’ requests. The AMT issue of the 1966 Chevy Nova was a major
win and Group 25 did its share by purchasing and butchering up two cases. Here was a new tool of a subject not previously
available, now with separate exhaust and four bolts on the main bearings, indicating a high-performance small block V8.
I remedied the lack of a low-performance station
wagon version by structuring a new roof out of sheet and strip styrene. Looking
at it now, I should have used better putty on the roof and should have straightened out the rear fenders.
I got short of time on this project because I put so much into researching and building
the correct in-line six and making the etched scripts. I still need to find the
right size of tires, as those in the kit were the bogus Firestone 95-series 7x14s. Maybe
by 2009.
